It's a Very Small World

These miniature daisies are destined for the front of a Mother's Day card. It took me most of a morning to make these six dollhouse-sized daisies, but there's something rewarding about knowing you made everything from scratch instead of buying them from a store.

Parade Preparation!

Washington DC is having their Cherry Blossom Parade and these guys at Fort MacNair were practicing hard! Hubby and I took the day off and spent the perfectly weathered day eating lunch outside and browsing the American Portrait Museum, among other things.

Working on a Tag Design

I am in need of two stamps, one of which I placed on etsy's alchemy. It will be a simple unobtrusive one for the back of my cards. This one is a preliminary mockup of a design I would use to tag my items for a craft fair/store....

Fun with Circle Templates!

I love drawing cogs! In this case they wound up as a woodburned cover for a small, square, hand bound journal...

Looking Forward to Summer....

...by returning to the past. This is one of my 2007 designs, newly remade. I will have it for sale once I take better pics in the morning light. This pic doesn't show that the white paper is textured, the red wings sparkle, and the letters are glittery.

And the Cover is Finished!

I opted for a more graphical approach to the cover, by using the unique abstract pattern formed by bicycle spokes. The cover can have a sentiment added or it can be left as is.... The end!

The Inside...

I chose a brick wall print for an urban feel, and it seems to work well with the bicycle. The card already stands well on its own, which is great because the customer plans on displaying the card.

I'm still up in the air about the cover, but leaning towards the bike repair theme.

In the design mode....

I've just started a new pop-up card design for someone who needs a card for a bicycle refurbisher. From top to bottom: First comes my mock-up of the wheel. I decided to lose the white in favor of the metallic silver paper. The metallic thread as spokes worked out well. The second pic is where I draw out the rest of the bike based on the size of the wheels. I've used several sketches of single gear bikes to come up with a frame I liked, and then produced a pattern for future use. The third pic is the bike almost finished; it needs handlebars, a seat and the front wheel center.

Next up is to design the handlebars so that they attach and hinge the bike to the card. More to come...
